Ways I Use to Combat Anxiety

As I have mentioned in multiple posts I have an anxiety disorder. General anxiety to be specific. And I know there are a lot of people who go through this also I decided to tell what I use to combat my anxiety. I use some of these when my anxiety is at its worst, and some just to sooth my everyday levels of anxiety.

But I would like to get it out there that this is what works for me. I know first hand that not everything I will say will work for anybody else. But maybe one or two of them will help somebody, and maybe it will help get you thinking about what does work for you.

  1. Tea. Tea for me is something that always calms me down. When I was younger I used to have at least three cups a day, one in the morning, one in the afternoon, and one before bed. Tea was something that always soothed me, I would feel calmer from the warmth it gave my hands and my throat, and in smell (something that really affects me is smells of things so this really helped). And it gave me something to focus on instead of whatever was giving me anxiety.
  2. Music. I am a big music fan. I always have it on me along with some headphones. It lets me just sink into a song and not have to focus on the word around me. It lets me just take a breather to gather myself and sort through whatever is giving me this anxiety.
  3. Favorite Shows. This one seems to be a popular one with people who I know with anxiety troubles. This also gives me a break from the world around me. It lets me sink into another world instead so that I don’t have to worry about the world or my problems. At least for a little while I can be stress and anxiety free.
  4. Horror Movies. I have a whole post dedicated to how horror movies help with anxiety. And I am a big fan of implementing it. Horror movies let me utilize my anxiety and fear in a way that doesn’t make me feel like I shouldn’t be feeling this way. It lets me let out all my anxiety in a healthy way. And for a little while afterward I am stress and anxiety free.
  5. Pets. This is a given. Pets are lauded as one of the best ways to help with anxiety, with study upon study on their benefits for people with anxiety and depression. And in my post ‘Anxiety and Depression’ I mentioned that I considered my dog my biggest supporter. My dog is always there when I need her. And even times when I don’t thing I do.

And those are the five things that I use most often to help with my anxiety. And again this is just what I use. It might not help or be what you need, but it might just help you think about what you could or do use to help.

I hope you find what you need to help you on your journey through managing your anxiety. And I hope this helped you in some way.
